What May Happen in the Next 100 Years.

What will we see in the next 100 years?

As predicted by the Lab_13 Irchester Management Committee.

Inspired by an article in the BBC News Magazine, Rick from Ignite asked us on twitter “I wonder what young scientists in #lab13 would predict for the next 100 yrs?”. So, these are just some ideas we brainstormed over our lunchtime.

1. Google implants in everyone’s head so no need for books etc. People will be able to close eyes and search for information about everything from weather to train timetables etc.

2. All energy used will be generated from renewable sources. Fossil fuels will no longer exist.

3. Cars will run on something apart from electricity.

4. Space travel will be developed and become even faster so that we will be able to holiday on Keppler22b.

5. Giant floating greenhouses will orbit the earth to provide fruit, vegetables and cereals. Also similar floating fields will be used to keep animals.

6. Rubbish will be dissolved and the liquid treated and used as fertiliser in the giant orb greenhouses.

7. Smart Contact lenses will change focus depending on what is being viewed.

8. No power cuts ever.

9. Humans will become super adapted to their professions.

10. ALL SCHOOLS WILL HAVE A LAB_13! We think this one will help the rest of them come true!

About lab13network

Lab_13 is a space in a school managed by pupils for pupils to conduct their own research and experiments driven by their curiosity, imagination and enthusiasm, and under the watchful supervision of a Scientist in Residence (not a teacher!!).

  1. Reminds me of a BBC programme I watched the other day. They stated that most scientists, when they make a prediction, are wildly optimistic.

I think you’re being wildly optimistic!

Got to be honest though, those floating greenhouses would be great holiday destinations. not sure how the animals would feel about floating a few miles above the earth…

  2. Rick says:

    well done scientists
i think you are right about head/brain implants – we should check with Dr Barry Gibb about that
and floating fields and greenhouses – though I think they may still be on earth – only floating on the oceans
and there will be a new fuel or energy source for transport
there WILL be Lab_13s in every school – and you will be remembered as the founders!

  3. Sophie says:

Thanks for the comments. I wish it would all come true today! Rick your idea about floating on oceans is well cool.

I think being wildly optimistic is good – it gives us someting to work towards.

  4. Joe says:

I’m Joe, the new _lab_13 member! I thought of the giant floating farms, and I suppose it was quite optimistic, and that floating on oceans will be easier to accomplish!
