What a week we’ve had!
The Irchester Committee traveled, on a train, to Nottingham for the world’s first Science Pop Up Shop. We arrived to meet Rick, from Ignite, and we set up our stall. We started to sell our Little Sherlock kits and we successfully sold 3 – 2 to a women and one to a man who didn’t know about the Lab before. Jack was great at selling and explaining the product!
Ebony thought the coolest room was the cinema space which was a dark room withconstellations around the room and video’s about science. We even got to meet Andrew the person who made the videos. On the wall there was a curiosity trail. It was made of lots of jars of very interesting things. One of the jars had a shark tooth in and information about it and ultra fine steel that looks like human hair.
Jayden was surprised how fun the day was and Lewis was so inspired by the pop-up shops fire steel that he has now bought his own and is showing other children how to use it (safely!). Jayden and Lewis spent a lot of time fixing the giant marble run.
My favourite part was the networking.” Jess said. We met some members of the PrimaryParliament and of course the other committee from Dovecote. It was interesting to talk to them about the differences in how we work. For example, they have specific jobs such Finance Manager and Chairperson but we change jobs and have different tasks each week. We swapped some kits with Dovecot and their bottles of PVA glue and borax to bring back to school.
The older girls Chloe, Fran and Jess, went on BBC radio AGAIN!Fran enjoyed meeting Fran Scott, who works at BBC making science experiments. They had great discussions about working in science under the branches of the tree in the reading area. Little Fran also enjoyed playing with Big Fran’s bulletproof goo!
We took part in many science activities. The camouflage activity with Nottingham Trent Uni was fun. We had to colour in 1 caterpillar and 3 butterflies to camouflage in pictures of a leaf, horse, sunflower and prairie dog. Also, we made kinetic sculptures. Ebony said “I made a new friend called Sophie from the Dovecote Management Committee.”
They gave a short presentation at the Launch event and they performed the now FAMOUS Lab_13 song several times! Rick was amazed they got the word “postulate” into it. Then we had to run to catch our train!
We enjoyed the day so much and want to say a big THANK YOU to Rick and Hasmita and everyone who helped organise it!
