How are birds adapted for flight?

??????????Year 6 asked this question this week so on Tuesday we had two visitors to Lab_13 – Stella and Matilda the chickens. Unfortunately chickens aren’t very good at flying but as Miss Hogan does not have a pet eagle we had to make do with them!

The were quite friendly which allowed us to look at their wings and feathers up close, feel how hot their body temperatures were (42degC!) and even notice how their centre of gravity is perfectly balanced! The most interesting part was examining the shape of their wings which are aerofoils just like an airplane wing. Nature inspires technology all the time!

Before they went home again, the committee said goodbye but we caught Jake talking to them in clucks!
