On Friday we invited Bryson Gore from Dovecote Lab_13 to speak to Year 3 and 4 at Irchester. Their topic this term is “Inventors and Inventions” and as Bryson is Inventor in Residence in Dovecote we thought he would be the perfect guy for the job! He said to be an inventor you had to solve a problem and to be a scientist you predict the future, the best invention ever was the mousetrap because it solves a problem and carries on solving that problem. The important things about scientists are that they ask lots of why and how questions which means they can ask what if. We gave inventions and he explained them. The ipad solved the problem of having to carry a heavy laptop around.
We discussed Lab_13 things too and found they do things differently to us in Dovecote. Bryson is only there two days a week and their committee have one job each and don’t change it. Say if you were Communications Manager you would be blogging all the time. Their committee is Year 4, 5 and 6 also and once you’re elected its forever. In Irchester, a Year 5 or 6 student gets elected for about 7months, we have different jobs to do each week and if there is a member who is not working as hard as everyone else then the committee might fire them.
