On Friday the 10th of February we had the “Walking with Scientists – a Journey into the Future”. We called it that because all 350 of the children in our school are scientists and use science to answer their questions and we will be the inventors, scientists, engineers, Albert Einsteins and Marie Curies of the future.
We took small groups of visitors around on a tour of our questions. Whilst they were taking the tour, they explored our investigations and they had a great time watching and listening to some of the children at our school perform their own experiments that they did to answer their questions. Some of the children who took part that were as young as 4 and as old as 11 and the guests were all very impressed by the students enthusiasm and curiosity. One amazed lady said “How did they even think of asking that?” We were very proud of our friends and want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped the day run so well.
We asked some important people who all came! We even had the MP Peter Bone there! Shock! We then had a letter from the House of Commons which thanked us for showing him around the lab and meeting the splendid mad scientists! He has spoken about us to the Minister of Lifelong Learning who was “very impressed to learn of the concept”.
The whole school dressed as Mini Mad Scientists on the day and here are some pictures. We think they really looked mad!
We were very lucky because James and Tom from BBC Radio Northampton think Lab_13 is great and they came to interview us. We will be on the radio on two different shows. The links are http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00nkcwv/Helen_Blaby_21_02_2012/ at 54mins and http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00nljdf/Joe_Pignatiello_at_Breakfast_22_02_2012/ at 1 hour 52mins. Well done Ellie and Joe!
Over halfterm, Lab_13 held two workshops – ScienceArt Workshop for Keystage 1 and Marble Madness Masterclass for Keystage 2. Everyone had a really great time exploring and inventing.
This afternoon Miss Hogan had a meeting with some Year 8 students from Wrenn Science School. They will be acting as Science Mentors to some of our students here and will be working together on special projects which will come from our students’ questions.
That’s all for this week!
