January 17th

Hello from the Lab_13.

We were very pleased to have Amy from Ignite visit us on Monday. She met lots of children who work in the lab and the committee. In the afternoon she got to take part in the Year 1 & 2 afterschool club which was great fun and we hope she got to see how much we all love Lab_13. She wrote a blog about it here.

Also on Monday, Lab_13 had the 2nd meeting of the Action group. Mr. Brighton joined the group this time and had some great ideas about businesses to approach for funding. Also, Mr. Anderson has gotten us some funding from the Royal Society of Chemistry to run 2 more events just like our Jobs in Science week.

The sessions in the lab has made some of the TAs more curious about the world around them. Last Friday Mrs Martin came in to say she saw a butterfly on the playground in January!? Miss Hogan went out and saw it too. We were all amazed.

We have started to plan our celebration event which we will invite lots of important people and people who support us to. We have called it “Walking with Scientists ….A Journey into the Future!” because it will be all about the future of Lab_13 and how we will be the scientists and engineers of the future. Joe and Ellie made this cool logo for it.

Come on Friday the 10th of February to find out more!!!

There was some sad news this week. The committee decided that Tommy would be downgraded to a F.Lab (Friends of Lab_13) member because he was not committed enough to the lab. Now there is going to be a new Year 5 boy to replace Tommy as a management committee member. We are asking Megan (ex-committee) to be a HR consultant to help the Year 5s choose a good replacement.

That’s all!

From Morgan and Edwin
